Join us: Montis invites to Bioblitzes in Portugal

MONTIS is organizing 2 Bioblitzs in November. A Lichens and Mosses Bioblitz on the 12th of November, and a Mushroom Bioblitz on the 13th.

Both activities are free to participate and MONTIS provides lunch and insurance.

The events will take place in Carvalhais, São Pedro do Sul, where MONTIS manages about 100 ha. There is a camping site with bungalows near the activity place, so anyone planning to attend one or both Bioblitzs and needing accommodation can contact us and we will try to facilitate the booking with the campsite management.

We can’t pick up people at the airport, but we can pick up people at the bus station in São Pedro do Sul. You can buy bus tickets from Porto or Lisbon to São Pedro do Sul here.

Day 1: Lichens and Mosses Bioblitz

In the Fall and Winter, we can see Lichens and Mosses thrive.

Like the activity of 2020 with the specialists Helena Hespanhol and Joana Marques, from CIBIO, we will go back to Carvalhais, São Pedro do Sul, to learn to identify these bryophytes.

We will start our walk in Bioparque do Pisão, until the property under MONTIS managment, passing through the watermills of Carvalhais. All the records of species of Lichens and Mosses we make during the walk will be introduced on MONTIS project on INaturalist, to allow us to understand if the diversity of these species is increasing or decreasing in the area.

Day 2: Lichens and Mosses Bioblitz

Lets find mushrooms on the 13th of November!

With the guidance of the specialist, Rui Cardoso, will walk for about 3h, in Carvalhais, São Pedro do Sul, trying to identify these fungi species we can find.

The walk will start in Bioparque do Pisão, until the property under MONTIS management, passing through the watermills of Carvalhais. All the records of mushroom species will be introduced on MONTIS project in INaturalist, to allow us to understand if the diversity of mushrooms is increasing or decreasing in the area.
