European Private Land Conservation Network – LIFE ELCN

This project is about developing a network of organisations and individuals active in private land conservation. It builds on previous efforts of the last couple of years. In 2013, at the 10th World Wilderness Congress in Salamanca, Spain, the idea of creating a European Landowners Alliance for Wildlands and Nature was presented by Eurosite, Fondació Catalunya La Pedreda, DBU, The Wild Foundation and other organisations.

Land is forever

The EU has formally committed to halt biodiversity loss in the EU by 2020. To realize this objective, the EU has adopted a comprehensive biodiversity strategy, the centerpieces of which are EU nature legislations, especially the Birds Directive (1979) and the Habitats Directive (1992). Those directives form the legal basis for the Natura 2000 network, Europe’s nature protection network.
